Where You Will Stay
About this space
Stay in the heart of the Queen City and walk the town. Just seven blocks from the state capitol or from downtown. Just steps out the door to walk the surrounding mountain trails. A room and a bath in a quiet neighborhood. We have lovely gardens in which to relax, have a glass of wine, and read a book. We also have an upstairs deck that overlooks the city.
The space
Welcome to our home. You will have a main floor bedroom, facing south, with attached bath. Except for the two short front steps our home is wheelchair accessible for that bedroom and downstairs living area. For a larger group, there is access to an upstairs bedroom and bathroom. We also have a trundle bed in our basement that kids might like. There is a queen sized hide-a-bed in the second floor living room.
Guest access
Feel free to use our outdoor spaces and the kitchen. You may access the microwave, toaster, stove, and fridge. Please place dirty dishes in the dishwasher. We will take care of the washing. If the fridge is not providing ice, there is ice in the freezer. We try to keep a shelf in the fridge open, but if we forget, make space for your items.
We have a coffee/tea tray set up on the sideboard in the dining room. The electric water pot will heat water for tea or for the French coffee press. Make yourselves at home, sit down, and enjoy your morning coffee or tea along with fruit and muffins or bread at the dining room table or kitchen bar. We have a lovely patio with a BBQ that may be used by guests in the spring, summer and fall.
If you need to do laundry, please let us know. Towels for the downstairs room are on the suitcase or hanging on the bathroom door. Please place dirty towels in the laundry basket in the bathroom. There are toiletries in a bowl on the downstairs bathroom counter. If you need a toothbrush or anything else, please ask.
Other things to note
Our peaceful location is just seven blocks from the Capitol and Last Chance Gulch. We are just minutes away from mountains, rivers, and all sorts of recreation. We will provide you with information about the recreational activities, places the locals love to eat and visit, and maps and brochures about all of these.
Walk out our door and go west to the corner to access mountain trails or walk west down State Street to Helena’s fabulous walking mall, which contains two breweries, many eating establishments, shops and a distillery down on Front Street. Walk east on State Street to reach Montana’s Capital complex which contains Montana’s restored Capitol building and Historical Society.

Our home, because of our beautiful hardwood floors, is a shoeless home. We also appreciate that you confine your eating to our kitchen and dining room. About your hosts
We are retirees who enjoy travel and meeting new people. Sandi was an educator and loves researching family history and much of her travel revolves around her roots. She would also assist you with research on your Montana ancestors. We enjoy interacting with others and traveling. Little jaunts and long cross country trips open our minds and eyes to the wealth and beauty of our country. During our travels we enjoy good wine, food, and music. A Susan Sontag quote, “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” is Sandi’s motto and Ken says, “She is dragging me along. She has visited all of our fifty states and is making sure I catch up.” We are now working on countries and continents.
During your stay
We will interact with guests as much as they like. You take the lead as we do not want to impose ourselves on you. Sometimes we are traveling and you have the place to yourselves or there may be guests upstairs.
